Geilston Bay.
Nestled on the shores of the River Derwent in Geilston Bay, just 11 nautical miles upriver from Nipaluna/Hobart, Lutruwita/Tasmania, the Geilston Bay Boat Club offers a relaxed and welcoming home for boating enthusiasts and the local community alike.
The bay itself has a proud maritime history. Named after Captain Giles, Geilston Bay hosted Australia’s first regatta in 1827, establishing a tradition of boating and water-based recreation that continues to this day.
More than 150 years later, that spirit of community came to life again when 48 passionate locals each contributed $200 to establish the Geilston Bay Boat Club in 1982/83. From these humble beginnings, the club has grown into a thriving, community-driven organisation with over 100 members who share a love of the water and the camaraderie that comes with it.
True to its name, the Geilston Bay Boat Club welcomes all types of watercraft — from small runabouts and sailing vessels to kayaks and other water-going craft. Much of the club’s activity centres around our jetties, slipways and boat ramp, providing members with practical access to the river and a place to maintain and enjoy their vessels.
